The best way out of DXB depends on your terminal, luggage and final address. A metro journey can work well for a light traveller staying near a station. An airport taxi suits a direct trip you are happy to arrange on arrival. A pre-booked car is worth considering when the passenger, vehicle requirements and pickup arrangements need to be agreed before travel.
Three checks before you choose
DXB has direct Red Line access from Terminals 1 and 3. A Terminal 2 arrival needs a different connection plan.
Include cabin bags, pushchairs and oversized items. Check the relevant transport limits, not just the number of seats.
Look at the walk or onward connection from the station to your actual entrance. A hotel near the metro is not necessarily beside it.

Luggage can change the answer
RTA permits two suitcases per metro passenger: one large suitcase no bigger than 81 × 58 × 30 cm and one small suitcase no bigger than 55 × 38 × 20 cm. For a family, count everyone’s bags together before choosing a car. Four seats do not prove there is room for four large suitcases and a folded pushchair. Send the bag sizes and passenger count with a private-transfer request; ask for confirmation rather than judging capacity from a photograph.

For the metro, include any onward taxi or connection in your comparison. For a pre-booked car, read the quote and check waiting, parking, extra stops and changes. Ask which charges are included. Comparing a taxi’s starting fare with a complete private-transfer quote gives a misleading result.
Two arrival examples
- A solo visitor with a small suitcase: arriving at Terminal 3 during metro hours, with a hotel close to a Red Line station. Check the station-to-hotel route before deciding.
- A colleague arranging a client’s arrival: the booker and passenger are different people, with a meeting after hotel check-in. A pre-booked car lets you send the passenger contact, hotel entrance and luggage details in advance. Confirm the arrangements in the booking rather than assuming a name board or free waiting is included.
